TITLE:                         Mechanic

 

QUALIFICATIONS:              1. High School Diploma or Equivalent

2. State of Maine drivers’ license B with P and S endorsements (or ability to obtain within six months)
3. Ability to obtain SIS license
4. Ability to obtain/maintain Tank Smart license
5. Demonstrates supervisory, mechanical and problem-solving aptitudes as well as communication skills
6. Basic computer skills

 

REPORTS TO:                     Director of Transportation

 

JOB GOAL:                         To keep the District’s vehicles in excellent operating                                                                                                           condition so that there are no interruptions to the educational program.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Has physical ability to assist and/or remove a student from the bus when a hazardous situation occurs and the student does respond to verbal or demonstrated instructions.

2. Has physical ability to safely operate a school bus and perform pre- and post-trip inspections and to fuel the vehicle safely.

3. Lifts up to 100 pounds and pushes/pulls up to 125 pounds.

4. Can stoop, bend, and perform repetitive movements necessary to carry out assigned performance responsibilities.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Supports the District’s mission and goals.

2. Assists the Director in assigning work to other mechanics.

3. Diagnoses and repairs District-owned vehicles.

4. Maintains an efficient and effective system of routine maintenance and preventive care including accurate and complete work orders.

5. Communicates with drivers to determine bus repair issues.

6. Advises the Director of Facilities & Transportation or designee of the need for future repairs or services on District-owned vehicles.

7. Takes appropriate action in response to emergency calls.
8. Oversees the safety and cleanliness of the work areas.

9. Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of parts as well as MSDS sheets.

10. Substitutes as bus driver when necessary.

11. Assumes such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation.
