The Oxford Hills School District is accepting applications for a Lead Mechanic in the Transportation Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- State of Maine drivers’ license B with P and S endorsements (or ability to obtain within six months)
- Ability to obtain SIS license within 6 months
- Ability to obtain/maintain Tank Smart license within 6 months
- Ability to obtain a Criminal History Record Check(CHRC) through the Maine Department of Education
- Twenty-one (21) years of age
- Demonstrates supervisory, mechanical and problem-solving aptitudes as well as communication skills
- Basic computer skills
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUPERVISES: Bus garage mechanics
JOB GOAL: To keep the District’s vehicles in excellent operating condition so that there are no interruptions to the educational program.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 52 week full time position - Hourly rate from $22.50 - $25.94 per hour dependent on experience; position is under the Oxford Hills Educational Support Personnel Association Contract which can be viewed here.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Has physical ability to assist and/or remove a student from the bus when a hazardous situation occurs and the student does respond to verbal or demonstrated instructions.
- Has physical ability to safely operate a school bus and perform pre- and post-trip inspections and to fuel the vehicle safely.
- Lifts up to 100 pounds and pushes/pulls up to 125 pounds.
- Can stoop, bend, and perform repetitive movements necessary to carry out assigned performance responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the District’s mission and goals.
- Assists the Director in assigning work to other mechanics.
- Diagnoses and repairs District-owned vehicles.
- Maintains an efficient and effective system of routine maintenance and preventive care including accurate and complete work orders.
- Communicates with drivers to determine bus repair issues.
- Advises the Director of Facilities & Transportation or designee of the need for future repairs or services on District-owned vehicles.
- Takes appropriate action in response to emergency calls.
- Oversees the safety and cleanliness of the work areas.
- Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of parts as well as MSDS sheets.
- Substitutes as bus driver when necessary.
- Assumes such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation.

OXFORD HILLS REGION
The Oxford Hills School District (MSAD 17) comprises the towns of Norway, South Paris, West Paris, Oxford, Waterford, Harrison, Hebron and Otisfield. MSAD 17 shares vocational resources and accepts students in its Oxford Hills Technical School programs from the RSU10 School District towns of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner. Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education is located within the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
