The Oxford Hills School District - MSAD #17 is looking for a qualified individual for our open Athletic Trainer position.

 

We are looking for a dedicated person who will be invested in the success of our students/athletes. The Athletic Trainer will work with medical professionals and coaches to evaluate the athletes condition, establish plans for diet, fitness, conditioning, treatment and track progress towards healthy fitness goals and recovery from injuries. You should be motivated to assist athletes, coaches, and families  towards realizing their full potential. You must possess a strong understanding of sports related injuries and treatment.

 

 

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director, Superintendent of Schools, Team Physician 

QUALIFICATIONS: NATA Certification Required 

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Preferred two years of successful experience as an athletic trainer or similar experience 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree, Masters degree preferred 

 

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:

• Holds a valid CPR for for the Professional Rescuer certification
• Holds a valid State Of Maine License for Athletic Trainers
• Holds a valid National Athletic Trainers Association National Certification
• Hold a valid CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) through the Maine DOE
• Holds a valid state driver’s license
• Transportation must be available to/from various home athletic fields and facilities
• Must be BOC certified and possess state athletic training licensure, certification or registration
• NPI Number Required. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Applied Knowledge:  Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. 
• Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed. 
• Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
• Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families. 
• Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Develop plans for providing athletic training coverage for all interscholastic home athletic events.
• Arrange for athletic trainer coverage when attending required off campus athletic events
• Work with coaches,  athletes and medical professionals to evaluate and treat the players condition. 
• Speak with coaches, athletes and family regarding treatment plans 
• Refer athletes to other medical professionals for further diagnosis and treatments. 
• Assist and monitor players as they follow the treatment plans to return to play

• Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment 
• Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility. 
• Develop comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans. 
• Initiate and administer an athletic training student-aide program in accordance with the school’s clubs and activities guidelines and state law. Updated 12/01/2018 
• Establish a working relationship with a designated team physician and community physicians. • Establish a working relationship with school nursing staff. 
• Complete (school systems) policies training to include: Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure    Control Plan training and comply with the regulations therein. 
• Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures. 
• Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school systems regulations, and outlined in the Athletic Injury Management section of the school’s athletic training program policies and procedures manual.

• Develop coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death, Sickle Cell 
• Handle clerical tasks, such as maintaining inventory and restocking supplies. 
• Preparing materials and supplies ready for teams traveling to away contest. 
• Updating and distributing up to date athlete emergency contact forms for in season coaches.
• Develop training sessions for coaches and athletes for Sudden Cardiac Arrest and other emergency situations. 

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the High school athletes, coaches, officials and game personnel and those of the visiting teams

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Attend off campus playoff games. 
• Attend away football contest. If there is a conflict in scheduling, Football coverage is primary.
• Arrangements should be made for home contest coverage by a per diem, certified Athletic Trainer. 
• Athletic Trainer may use the team bus transportation or use their personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work is demanding and sometimes stressful. Strong physical strength may be required to position patients for examination.
• May need to assist patients by helping them on and off the exam table and/or bed.
• Must be able to work in various outdoor weather conditions.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid state and national certification/license. 
• Detailed oriented, analytical, and attentive. 
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, decision making and communication skills. 

 

The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School (MSAD17) employs a Certified Athletic Trainer available to all students/athletes and teams at OHCHS. The role of the Athletic Trainer is to manage student/athlete injuries and assist in the injury prevention and treatment for the student/athletes. The Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer will communicate a coverage schedule for most athletic home events.

 

Coaches are expected to coordinate, communicate and work with the Athletic Trainer. Head coaches should be the primary, and often the only,  contact between the athletic trainer and the team. However, the Head Coach can designate an Asst. Coach to be the (POC)

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• The Athletic Trainer will have the final say ver internal decisions regarding participation of a student /athlete related to an injury. The AT will also be the primary contact person with the student/ athletes medical provider.
• The Athletic Trainer will establish in season training room hours in which the student/ athlete can stop in without an appointment. The AT may also schedule additional appointment hours  with the student/ athlete when it is convenient for both parties.
• The Athletic Trainer will communicate appropriately with the parent(s)/guardian(s), the AD, the school nurse, and coaching staff in order to keep everyone in the loop regarding a student/athlete’s injury and “return to play” status.
• The Athletic Trainer will be the primary manager of the schools Concussion Management Protocol and coordinate with the school nurse in regards to all “Return to Play” situations.
• The Athletic Trainer will provide communications and paperwork to the school nurse for record keeping purposes.
• The Athletic Trainer will provide the AD, School District Business office, and when appropriate, the school nurse with copies of injury reports as required.
• Additional responsibilities as may be determined by the Athletic Director, Principal or the Superintendent.

The Oxford Hills School District (MSAD 17) comprises the towns of Norway, South Paris, West Paris, Oxford, Waterford, Harrison, Hebron and Otisfield. MSAD 17 shares vocational resources and accepts students in its Oxford Hills Technical School programs from the RSU10 School District towns of Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner. Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education is located within the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
